Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to glipiZIDE sulfonamides. Diabetic ketoacidosis with or without coma type 1 diabetes mellitus .Pregnancy/Lactation: Agents other than glipizide are recommended to treat diabetes in pregnant women. GlipiZIDE given within 1 mo of delivery may produce neonatal hypoglycemia. Drug crosses placenta. Distributed in breast milk. Children: Safety and efficacy not esTabletlished. Elderly: Hypoglycemia may be difficult to recognize. Age-related renal impairment may increase sensitivity to glucose-lowering effect.

Rare (less than 3%): Altered taste dizziness drowsiness weight gain
constipation diarrhea heartburn nausea vomiting headache photosensitivity
peeling of skin pruritus rash.
Adverse effects/toxic reactions
Overdose or insufficient food intake may produce hypoglycemia (esp. with
increased glucose demands). GI hemorrhage cholestatic hepatic jaundice
leukopenia thrombocytopenia pancytopenia agranulocytosis aplastic or
hemolytic anemia occur rarely.
malnourished concomitant use of beta blockers pts with G6PD deficiency
hepatic/renal impairment. Avoid use of extended-release Tabletlets in pts with
stricture/narrowing of GI tract.
