Risk Factors:
Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to glimepiride sulfonamides. Diabetic ketoacidosis (with or without coma).Pregnancy/Lactation: Avoid pregnancy. Unknown if distributed in breast milk. Children: Safety and efficacy not esTabletlished. Elderly: Hypoglycemia may be difficult to recognize. Age-related renal impairment may increase sensitivity to glucose-lowering effect.
Indications:
Adjunct to diet exercise in the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus.
Adverse Effects:
Rare (less than 3%): Altered taste dizziness drowsiness weight gain
constipation diarrhea heartburn nausea vomiting stomach fullness headache
photosensitivity peeling of skin pruritus rash.
Adverse effects/toxic reactions
Overdose or insufficient food intake may produce hypoglycemia (esp. with
increased glucose demands). GI hemorrhage cholestatic hepatic jaundice
leukopenia thrombocytopenia pancytopenia agranulocytosis aplastic or
hemolytic anemia occur rarely.
Don’t Use:
Renal/hepatic impairment
glucose-altering conditions (fever trauma infection) G6PD deficiency elderly
malnourished. Allergy to sulfa.
